Partnership to Strengthen Citizen Engagement
MADET continues to play a key role in strengthening citizen participation and inclusive governance in Makueni County through strategic collaboration with the county government and other development stakeholders.
In a major step toward enhancing community engagement, MADET partnered with the county government and civil society partners to strengthen participatory governance and citizen involvement in development planning processes. The initiative aims to ensure that residents across the county have a stronger voice in shaping the policies, priorities, and programs that directly affect their livelihoods.
Public participation is a cornerstone of Kenya’s devolved governance system, yet many communities still face barriers in accessing information, engaging in policy discussions, or influencing development decisions. MADET works to bridge this gap by organizing community forums, civic education sessions, and stakeholder dialogues that empower residents to actively participate in governance processes.
Through these initiatives, community members are able to share their views on development priorities such as water access, agricultural support, education, infrastructure, and health services. The organization also facilitates engagement between citizens, civil society organizations, and government representatives to promote transparency, accountability, and collaborative problem-solving.
The partnership has also created opportunities for community groups, youth organizations, and women’s networks to engage more effectively in decision-making processes. By strengthening local voices and encouraging open dialogue, MADET is helping to build a governance culture that values citizen input and promotes responsive leadership.
As part of its long-term strategy, MADET remains committed to supporting inclusive governance structures that ensure development initiatives reflect the real needs and aspirations of the people of Makueni.
